Tummy Tuck Plastic Surgery
by F. Ryan Wermeling, MD
Loose belly skin is common after pregnancy or weight loss. Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, removes the extra fat and skin from the belly.
The muscles of the abdomen are also tightened to fix the bulge
of the lower belly that just won't go away even with exercise.
In a standard tummy tuck the extra skin above and below the belly button is removed along with tightening the muscles. A mini-tummy tuck removes a smaller amount of skin from below the belly button.
In patients with a large amount of weight loss and extra skin an extended tummy tuck, or fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty, can be performed. This removes even more skin above the belly button and can help to narrow the waist.
